Several Racewalkers Northwest members participated in the 2019 USATF 50 km Race Walk Championships in Santee, CA in January. In addition to Racewalkers Northwest members, there were other race walkers representing Oregon as well. Walkers from Oregon participated in both the 10K and the 50K.
The weather was ideal at the 7:30 AM start, with temps in the mid 50's. It quickly warmed up and by 10:00 AM, it was already pushing the mid 70's. Walkers racing in the 10K and 20K were doing ok, however walkers in the 50K event were beginning to feel the effects of the heat and dry wind. They struggled as the temps pushed into the 80's.
